Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare attitudes between Egyptian and US parents as concerning the benefits of APA programs for children with disabilities to improve quality of life and acceptance from society. The participants in this study were parents of children with disabilities involved in swimming programs. We choose swimming as an activity to help improve the social attitude by the social engagement that happen during the swimming sessions. Moreover swimming is a famous and favorite sport in both countries. The data were collected through the use of a survey that employed a 5.0 Likert scale. The differences between the two groups were less than 10 %. There was approximately 20% differences with two age groupings. The US group having younger children, and the Egyptian group had more ten to 16 years old children. Three questions had significant differences. All three questions were related to social interactions.
