Abstract

Dysfunctional mentoring is a very broad term that describes all forms of negative mentor-protégé experiences. Most of the literature on this subject is still fairly recent and examines the topic of negative (or toxic) mentoring from an all-encompassing perspective. This paper will include all experiences that are deemed negative regardless of the severity of their outcomes. Additionally, this paper will focus on the literature of mentoring that generally involves adults in the workplace setting instead of specific sub-populations, such as high-risk populations (e.g. offenders) or youth.
