Abstract

Education is a basic human right, vital to personal and societal development and well being and all children deserve a quailty education founded on a rights-based approach and rooted in the concept of gender equality(UNICEF,2006). It is also stated clearly in the National Policy of Education(NPE,2004) in Nigeria that education is a right and not a privilege for every citizen whether male or female; able or disabled; young or old, etc. The idea of gender equility was also stessed at the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995,Nigerian women have followed suit by trying to make their impact felt in social and political aspects of the county. One of the slogans now is that the place of women is not only in the kitchen and that if you educate a woman you are educating a nation. Based on this background, the present researcher is interested in finding out the place of females with hearing impairment in terms of girl- child education in Nigeria.
