Abstract

This paper will describe and evaluate the technical and scholarly practices that have supported the creation of the digital edition of Vetusta Monumenta, a plate book published by the Society of Antiquaries of London between 1718 and 1906. A description of cataloging and preservation practices will contextualize an assessment the project’s content management system, which has supported the creation of linked associations between digitized plates and scholarly commentary about them. Specifically, a discussion of how cataloging and preservation standards support scholarly interests in antiquarian research and publishing will frame an assessment of workflows that promote scholarly collaboration.
