Abstract

Flexible learning occurs when the learner has control over one or more aspects of the learning process, including assessment. This paper reports on a project at Leeds Metropolitan University to develop flexible learning models for business and hospitality that can be transfered to other areas across the university. To facilitate acceptability, the approach taken was to develop flexible delivery models within the existing module frameworks. This minimised the apparent changes staff had to make, while exploring more student-centred methods of delivery.<p> Within this framework, the focus has been on developing students’ abilities to become actively involved in the direction of their own learning and become co-creators rather than passive recipients of knowledge. The outcome has been the development of a variety of approaches and changed perceptions of the teaching and assessment processes</p>
