Developing an Appreciation for Diverse Perspectives
Abstract
In my paper I describe how I have transformed my courses to make diversity an obvious and integral component. By revising the syllabi and —more importantly — by creating though-provoking exercises and assignments I have encouraged students to explore a variety of perspectives from the past and to confront issues of diversity. As a result, not only are they better prepared as teachers, but they have a much more sophisticated understanding of the past and improved critical thinking skills.
