Abstract

This article first introduces balanced scorecard as an overall methodology for KM measurement through reviewing common approaches of knowledge management performance measurement. Then a knowledge management metric model will be developed based on balanced scorecard method to measure performance of knowledge management strategies. In this model, the required context will be prepared for deploying and measuring performance of knowledge creating strategies based on four balanced perspective of knowledge. The descriptive and analytical approach determined four issues as balanced dimensions in the knowledge management metric model. These balanced dimensions are sympathized knowledge, conceptual knowledge, systemic knowledge and operational knowledge. Also a methodology for creating a knowledge strategy map was developed based on these four balanced perspectives and a list was made that includes various measures in each of the four perspectives. The identified measures and critical success factors into the four balanced dimension knowledge can act as a guideline for KM metrics in the organizations. This helps to ensure that the essential issues are covered during design and implementation phase of knowledge strategies. The paper may present high value to researchers in the knowledge management field and to practitioners involved with KM program in the organizations. This study further provides an integrated perspective of KM metrics. It gives valuable information and guidelines that hopefully will help the leaders to consider the important issues during performance measurement of knowledge management strategies in the organization.
