Abstract

This paper discusses the design and evaluation of an interactive multimedia courseware based on learning styles for personalized tutoring of mathematics. The different characteristics of learning styles were identified, and then mapped to the presentation structure and interface design of the software. In addition, learning content presentation was also designed based on contextual learning approach and information-processing theory. The prototype, using the topic ‘percentage’ was evaluated in a quasi-experimental pre and post-test case study involving thirty-five secondary school students. Results showed that personalized design based on individual learning style was effective in helping to increase learning gains.
