Abstract

During the last two centuries, design has changed from a self-contained, closed concept to a complex idea that links to all the social and pragmatic domains of life. Design thinking is generally described as a creative, analytic process that involves opportunities to experiment, innovate, create, prototype, and gather feedback. Several characteristics have been identified in the literature as requisites for the design thinker, such as creativity, team work, and visualization skills. Previous studies also mentioned the features and characteristics of effective design and discussed the importance of cultivating problem-solving skills among designers. The present article synthesizes and summarizes research on design thinkers, including their characteristics, and discusses guidelines for design projects.
