Abstract

In order for Cultural Sustainability to be effective, the internal dynamics of international institutions must be powerful enough to generate the intended result, an effect which itself is constantly evolving and improving. One way to achieve this is through participating in a program initiated by UNESCO: International Philosophy Day. In 2002 the United Nations’ UNESCO headquarters in France declared the third Thursday of November to be International Philosophy Day, an occasion for people throughout the world to reflect upon the importance of critical thinking, world peace, international cooperation and the love of wisdom. It addresses such questions as “Can philosophy create paths for the emancipation of humanity?” and “How can philosophical dialogue help to encourage human rights, democracy, and critical citizenship?” Better understanding of all traditions of thought in the world is necessary to promote Cultural Sustainability, as the love of wisdom is a universal heritage.
