Abstract

Resistance to tyranny is and has been an important political measure. It can be found at the foundations of many modern democracies and it is widely acknowledged as a fundamental human right. In a basic and practical sense, resistance relies on two abilities: a cognitive ability to recognize tyrannical behaviour and a physical ability to resist that behaviour. These abilities require the cognitive and physical accessibility of political measures. The last decades however witnessed a growth of incorporations of political interests in high technologies which are unintelligible, hidden, virtual and complex. They are not accessible anymore and immunise the political interests they incorporate against resistance. In order to maintain the basis of the right of resistance, it should be demanded as a duty of the technical expert to provide understanding and accessible means for the disengagement of any technologies which have a potential to incorporate illegitimate political interests.
