Abstract

Under the gaze of international attention, riots in China has come to constitute a site for a number of emotionally charged debates for political around minority policy and cultural sensibility around ethnic marginalization or oppression, and western imperialism resulting in an onslaught of media both in China and the west. This study undertakes a comparative analysis of 3 American mainstream newspapers (New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Wall Street Journal) and three Chinese ones (Xinhua, China Daily and Beijing Daily) from July 5th to July 24th 2009. As such in comparing narratives and frames of the news accounts we hope to find out the deficiencies of news communication and build through a constructivist approach by proposing a solution for mutual understanding.
