Abstract

Visualizations are a popular representation format for communicating voter electoral choices. In this work, we provide visual representations of voter electoral choices of the Indian state of Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections held in 2019. For this purpose, we use comparative visualization to compare and contrast voter preferences for the central government and the state government elections. The voter preferences we consider include the party of the winning candidate, the gender of the winning candidate, and the margin of victory of the winning candidate. For the implementation of the comparative visualizations, we use a design space consisting of three pivots; juxtaposition, superposition, and explicit representation. We conclude with a discussion on these representations and by proposing further work.
