Abstract

When designing for the theatre the collaborative process is essential to the production. The director of the production often has the final say in the process, designers often become the "providers of stuff" rather than collaborators in the process. The audience has no interaction with the design process until they are presented with a finished product. The creative process should be design by group process as often the director has no training in design the design should be entrusted to the designers, often when an untrained director or manager of a project gets to make design decisions that sometimes do not serve the production effectively. Maybe there is a way to ensure that the end result is good design that most of the audience will enjoy and that all the designers involved are proud of their work. Maybe there is a system that can be developed for a collaborative process that can include the audience before the production is finished. I would like to include a group of designers and a director for a group discussion.
