Abstract

For many individuals suffering from traumatic brain injury (TBI), difficulties in various school subjects are often related to memory problems and can lead to a myriad of related academic, social, and emotional problems that follow them throughout their lives. The authors of this text focus on neuroscience and recent understandings of the impact damage can have on the brain and mind. Recent research on the developing brain may provide cognitive rehabilitation professionals with ways to help young individuals reach important milestones more easily, and to see how education can play an integral role in healing the brain. This may require various fields involved with cognitive rehabilitation to step out of their traditional views of how individuals with brain injuries relearn, and look closely at how human beings are evolutionarily designed to learn.
