Abstract

Impacts of climate change are being felt all over the world. Himalayan Glaciers like Gangotri and Yamunotri are melting away at an unprecedented rate and effecting lives of many in the Indian subcontinent. According to the IPCC reports, India will have no drinkable water left in the next fifty years. Cities like Mumbai in India are under a constant threat of being submerged due to rising sea levels. The policy makers of the country realize the hardships the country may face under the scenario of climate change. The Indian economy depends heavily on agriculture which is also under constant threat from climate change. In this paper we analyze the effects of climate change on Indian agriculture in Punjab, which is also known as the food basket of India. Our results do not show any negative impact of climate change on agriculture.
