Abstract

In this age of globalization, organizational success is aligned with worldwide operations and a globally-minded work force. Around the world, organizations are dealing with the myriad of challenges and opportunities associated with competition in an increasingly complex world without borders. The ability to respect differences and value diversity is an important key to success in managing organizational behavior across cultures. This underscores the need for effective diversity initiatives in organizations that seek success in the global economy. The results of a qualitative research study of workplace diversity initiatives of organizations in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. area is presented and discussed. Implications for organizational leaders interested in developing or improving their own workplace diversity initiatives is addressed. Strategies for promoting and managing diversity within and between organizations is presented. There is a particular focus on the positive implications of celebrating diversity in the workplace.
