Abstract

This case-study based paper focuses on diversity in universities in the United States. The selected case studies, which focus on experiences of black faculty, provide a basis for analyzing bipolar diversity. The case studies also provide a glimpse into the climate in many contemporary academic departments in the United States where the approach to hiring black faculty demonstrates a duality of diversity manifested through recruitment and a revolving door (that cycles black faculty into and out of predominately white institutions of higher education).
