Battle of the Bulge
Abstract
Female experiences, such as becoming pregnant, and even sometimes marriage alone, may increase a woman’s disadvantage in the workplace. Mistreatment may result from various causes and occurs so frequently that it can become a stressful experience during a woman’s employment. This leads to a conflict in a woman’s expected role versus her financial independence and possibly her financial survival. Although the government and employers have attempted to enact more family-friendly policies, these policies often fail in preventing conflicts in work settings and in providing support for employees when the conflicts do arise. The United States seems to have fallen behind in offering more accommodating policies for families, while some European countries have realized how more family-friendly policies may benefit their communities.
