Abstract

This project investigated the role of spirituality in the narratives of persons recovering from brain injuries through the grounded theory method of analysis. 30 narratives (10 oral, 10 published and 10 Internet) were coded for themes of loss of self, agency and communication. The presence of aspects of faith in the narratives was significant. The results of the study indicated a significant interaction between type of narrative and gratitude, meaning, and redemptive imagery. The findings of the study may be used to help develop appropriate interventions for persons who have experienced brain injuries and other life changing traumatic events.
