Abstract

The intervention of existential therapy woven with Eastern thoughts and beliefs could help aging Asian immigrants who face the issues of death and dying to recognize the match between Western intervention techniques and Eastern traditional healing. Therefore, they would be able to seek help from the mainstream mental health services. Since Asian immigrants tend to cling to their deeply rooted customs in dealing with very intimate primary concerns such as death and dying, they need to preserve and practice their own cultural mourning rituals to relieve their grief. Hence, funerary rituals could serve as a powerful therapeutic experience in assisting Asian immigrants deal with the loss.
