Abstract

For most of the twentieth century, the study of architectural history has been a central pedagogical component of architecture education in the United States. While the impact of emerging technologies has challenged its prominence, architectural history remains a vital and timeless aspect of a balanced curriculum. When integrated into the design studio itself, alternatively framed history pedagogies offer an opportunity to simultaneously engage the functional, structural, social, and technical aspects of architecture through the filter of multiple perspectives and diverse cultures.
