Abstract

This paper is about the dilemmas created by the imperative to develop an introductory unit for a teacher education program which could be delivered in external mode to student teachers living at distance from the metropolitan campus. It describes the approaches to teacher education which underlay the internally delivered version of the unit, including the ways in which students were introduced to the processes of reflection and initiated into the use of reflection as a way of learning about teaching.
