Abstract

In this paper the foundational principle of modernity, the sovereignty, is challenged. In order to prove the thesis the authors challenge the military, cultural and economical sovereignty of the modern nation-state. The sovereign nation-state is unlikely to remain the main source of political authority in the future. The form of the sovereign state is already challenged by new forms of authority and community which transform the inherited divide between the national and the international. It is the contention that it will be replaced by forms of political life which do not care about this distinction and what was once followed by it.
