Abstract

Pop culture inclusions in higher education classrooms provide exciting, relevant teaching tools that can aid students in a variety of modalities. Well-placed and appropriate examples help students understand discipline content, and instructors should not be hesitant to introduce these as engagement tools. The following article discusses challenges of instruction with pop culture along with tips to help instructors in a variety of disciplines use it relevantly in the higher education environment. Examples that particularly relate to idea generating for writing and other communication projects are provided along with suggestions for effective use.
