Abstract

Congestion is one of America’s leading transportation and economic problems. This paper uses existing information related to population size and time travel index, provided in the Urban mobility report, to evaluate whether a direct correlation between population growth and travel time index, the difference in normal travel flow and peak travel flow, exists. This research builds on previous data collected to evaluate the performance of the freeway system, identify specific outliers, and note what these outlying metropolitan areas are implementing in regards to congestion management strategies to control the impact of congestion.
