Common Sense (rhetoric)

In these Common Sense excepts from the pamphlets, I sensed a lot of ethos(credibility) and logos(logic). Knowing that the pamphlet itself is made by a famous philosopher and writer is ethos in itself. He uses phrases and knowledge that he expects you to already know which implicates that he knows what he's talking about. In his very persuasive writing he uses tons of analogies to make sense of why America shoud be feed of Euroupe's hold. For example he says "Small islands not capable of protecting themselves, are the proper objects for kingdoms to take under their care; but there is something very absurd in supposing a continent to be perpetually governed by an island. In no instance hath nature made the satelite larger than its primary planet, and as England and America, with respect each other, reverses order of nature, is it evident they belong to different systems. England to Europe, and America to itself." Paine makes the comparison to America being a small plannet and how a larger planets satelite(Europe) can't make the smaller planet bigger than its self. Thus, Europe is holding America back from further expanding. Which makes logical sense.
