Chris Li’s Updates

Update 1: Schoology the facebook of education.

The amount of technology and techniques that have been implemented into the education system has dramatically changed from the time I was a student to the time I became a teacher. I originally remember using clickers and projectors for a majority of my classes and that was seen as pretty advanced at the time. As I was in college many of my courses include interactive Smartboards which were a big deal at the time. When I began my student teaching I was introduced to a new media platform that they were trying for the first time in their curriculum known as Schoology.

After my first introduction to Scholar I was reminded of Schoology and how similar the idea of each platform is. Schoology is a unique media platform for educators and students to collaborate in anyway the educator finds useful. In my classroom we used Schoology for class readings, turning in certain assignments, and group discussions. The setup is very similar to Facebook where each individual can make a profile to include pictures and other information about themselves. From there they are able to to create classrooms or groups that they then can invite individuals to join. Within the certain classroom or group you can create posts, events, assignments, and many other activities very similar to the setup as scholar. It was a great medium for students to talk amongst one another on a platform that wasn't the classroom or in front of a teacher per say. Some students who tended to be quieter in classroom opened up more while on the computer vs the traditional classroom.

As I move forward with my education and continue to be an educator I cannot wait to see more classrooms and districts transition from the traditional didactic pedagogy, to the authentic pedagogy, and eventually the transformative formative pedagogy. The only concern I have moving forward is that I hope all these resources are available to all students without any restrictions because I believe these tools are the future to teaching our youth.
