Dr. Rita Horton is the Acting Chair of the Psychiatry Department at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. She also serves in several other key roles inside the university. She is the Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Program, and is utilized in a leadership role on the Institutional Review Board. Dr. Horton lectures the General Psychiatry residents on Theories of Psychotherapy and the Child/Adolescent Fellows in Theories of Child Development. Dr. Horton is a Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in Louisiana (USA), and has worked in both out-patient and in-patient settings. She has become increasingly concerned about the mental health issues of medical students, and has been focused on developing interventions for faculty to use in helping these students. On a personal note, Rita lives on a lake where she enjoys the solitude of nature and reading.
