Transformative Education: New Learning
Transformative pedagogy focuses on the learner and learning. As such, it sets out deliberately to transform students’ life chances and play an active role in changing social conditions. It changes the balance of agency in learning relationships by encouraging learners to build their own knowledge in a supportive learning environment, to work with others in lateral knowledge-making relationships (peers, parents and community members), to negotiate local and global differences, and to extend the breadth and scope of their education beyond the walls of the traditional classroom.

Almost the pedagogies now focuses on the students learning. And that is very good, but in some instances we still have to apply again the traditional ways and also it will depend on what pedagogy we should use depending on how the learners can easily adjust and learn.

I like the idea of transforming educational thought from the future back as described by the speaker. Not that we want to dictate what the child will want to do as a career in the future, but create ideas of the reality of how the child can learn to see a future and their role in it. As Bill Gates mentions in his essay, Bill Gates on American Schools, Training the workforce of tomorrow with the high schools of today is like trying to teach kids about today’s computers on a 50-year-old mainframe. This quote reflects on Bill Gates' own vision of the future when he and others in his circle created the operating system for the majority of computer systems, from enterprise servers to the end user.
He describes the basic building blocks for effective high school education as defined as rigor, relevance, and relationships. These ideas have one purpose in mind, to support and produce the kind of life long learning needed in a changing workplace. Students deserve the curriculum that will explore their interests and how their education will be relevant to those interests, as well as provide adult mentorships to support these interests.
Education follows a new trend: learning in groups
The curriculum is built on the spirit of self-study, group discussion between students and teachers, helping learners learn as well as impart knowledge to each other, which is also a way for learners to experience better with learning.

Think about of transformative pedagogy
In traditional classrooms, students sit and focus on listening, passively answering questions and getting right and wrong answers. I quite like the idea of transformative pedagogy when the classroom is changed quite a bit: students can learn anywhere. In the classroom, there is a new structure with students often sitting at round tables in small groups to discuss issues. The teacher raises the problem and the group members find information by themselves, exchange in the group, each person has their own path to find knowledge to learn. This learning makes students more active, knowledge will be better remembered. However, it also needs a good infrastructure foundation to be able to deploy. For example, the internet must be strong enough, all students need an internet-connected device or can connect to a data library, etc. In my opinion, this is a very new and active way of learning.
technological advancement and implementation of new and improved methods make education more challenging to teachers because they should be aware of new emerging technologies and follow these innovations. online education is also challenging but in my view it is didactic pedagogy.@Similolluwa
The learner and learning itself are at the center of transformative pedagogy. It actively aims to improve students' chances for success in life and encourages them to take an active part in social change. The ideas of a Transformative Pedagogy presented in our lectures and in the reading materials of this unit also appear in the a short video by American Professor and Public Intellectual Cornell West. In his comments Education - the Cultivation of the Self, he makes a distinction between schooling and education. Real education, he argues, is not just about skill or knowledge aquisition but has a high moral purpose.

As Prof. Cope has argued in his lecture, transformative education has the power to change individuals, the conditions of their lives, and ultimately the societies that they live in. Here is a quote from Cornel West presenting a more detailed take on this larger point:
By education I do not mean schooling. Schooling has to do with gaining access to skills but there is no transformation. Education is about the formation of attention...you attend to things that matter. It's about the cultivation of a self so that you're able to have a sense of who you are based on integrity, honesty and decency...It is about the maturation of a soul that you learn how to muster the courage to think critically, the courage to love, to stay in contact with the humanity of others...and mustering the courage to hope.... West also talks about the education as opening up students to serve others, in a wide array of ways.
This youtube video demonstrates the moral dimension of the transformative education. An education that transforms each of us into a more highly developed sense of self with a greater sense of our responsibilities in the social sphere. If this is truly the outcome of Transformative education, then indeed, society will be transformed into a more caring and equitable place.

The second R is Relevance—making sure kids have courses and projects that clearly relate to their lives and their goals;
The third R is Relationships—making sure kids have a number of adults who know them, look out for them, and push them to achieve.
a non-traditional school that has been so successful that it has become a model for opening many similar schools across the United States. Learning plans are based on their interests and passions. Most importantly, Learning Through Internship projects provide students with the opportunity to address their Learning Goals in the real world.
All three stakeholders, staff, children, and parents share responsibility for the completion of the agreed goals.

I would love to hear a fair and balanced assessment of the School of the Future at the current time, including its history of struggles and successes since its opening. A quick google search shows that Melinda Gates invested a lot more money into the school around 2012 or so. Perhaps we need the source for our course updated.
