New Learning MOOC’s Updates

Technology in Education: A New Light

The new environmental setting of education is vastly changing the traditional way of teaching of educational institutions all across the globe. Gone are the workbook or textbook-based discussions, the conventional pen-and-paper test, the teacher-centered classes, and the usual four cornered classroom set-up. Also, the one size fits all teaching arrangement has now been transformed into differentiated learning. The curriculum and educators has now been taking into consideration the learning capabilities, interests, and different learning styles of learners.

We are now in the digital age where learning is very flexible. We now have many learning modalities for education to be easily accessed by educators and learners namely, face-to-face discussions, blended learning wherein the sessions are combination of face-to-face and distance learning, online classes, flipped classroom, and others. This may seem difficult and uncomfortable at first but, we need to adapt to these changes. According to UNESCO, the advancement of technology in education shows a great potential on improving the quality of education. There has been installation of internet on remote schools and purchases of television intended for classrooms are now being prioritized by the educator sector. As a teacher in an upland school in the Philippines, using technology as part of our daily classes still poses a challenge. Hopefully, the utilization of technology in the field of education fully materializes in the coming years even on rural areas.
