Yumi Yoshioka has been teaching applied piano, piano pedagogy, and music notation classes at Universiti Sains Malaysia. Her research includes on computer instruction for young beginning students, and the experimentation of using computer assisted software to teach piano to teach piano to blind piano students. She is currently studying the use of Comprehensive Musicianship in teaching applied piano to university students. Her interest includes the use of local folk tunes in teaching young beginning piano students.She completed her Associate of Science degree at Vincennes University in Indiana. Further studies with William Hughes at Indiana State University earned her a Bachelor of Music in Performance. Post graduate studies include a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of South Carolina where she studied with Charles Fugo, Scott Price, and Steven Taylor. She has presented, taught, performed and accompanied in the US, and Japan.
