Bruce is Founder and Principal of brwarchitects. His work has been recognized by state and local AIA chapters for both design excellence and his commitment to serving the community. He has integrated community service into his practice of architecture, beginning with his role as Assistant Government Architect for the Peace Corps in the Kingdom of Tonga. He is a founding member and former Chairman of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville, has served as President of AIA Central Virginia, on the Board of Directors for the Center for Christian Study, and as an Elder for Christ Community Church. Among his accomplishments are the first LEED-Silver certified Women's Emergency Shelter in the nation, and landmark urban planning projects in Charlottesville's downtown area such as the Belmont Lofts and The Crossings, a Single Room Occupancy shelter for formerly homeless residents. For the latter, Bruce was named the Design Professional of the Year from the City of Charlottesville. Currently, he is Co-Chair of the AIA National Subcommittee for Early Childhood Learning Environments and serves on the Architectural Review Board for Albemarle County as well as on the Board for the Charlottesville arts nonprofit, New City Arts. Bruce's affinity for public service and his skill in design are enhanced by his desire to be sensitive to human relationships.
