  I am an Associate Professor and the Graduate Program Director of English at FIU. I received my PhD from SUNY Buffalo's department of Comparative Literature in 2003. My research and teaching center around questions of identity, community, culture, "race," gender, sexuality, social justice, and performance. I am currently working on a book project exploring the plantation language of the NBA and the degree to which we, as a society, are generally blind to its impact and institutitionalization. Given its appeal to a massive portion of our US American population, sport seems to me the ideal locus of examination for these very pressing questions and issues. As a former player myself I have been interested in college and professional basketball, power, and the construction of race, for over 30 years.
