  I am a Professor of Comparative Literature, specializing in modern Arabic and Arab diaspora literatures and intellectual history. I am the author of two monographs: *Tayeb Salih: Ideology and the Craft of Fiction* (Syracuse UP 2003) and *Immigrant Narratives: Orientalism and Cultural Translaiton in Arab American and Arab British Literature* (Oxford UP 2011), and I am currently writing a book about Arab Brazilian Literature. I am the editor of *The Oxford Handbook of Arab Novelistic Traditions (Oxfrod UP 2017) and the Vice-President of the American Comparative Literature Association (to become President in March 2019).
