Paul Lagergren has been an adjunct professor of communication at American River College in Sacramento, CA for 28 years. A two-time cancer survivor, Paul has a BS and MA in communication studies with a focus in social change theory and the pattern of addictions. Paul served 3 years in the US Army and was stationed in Germany during the Cold War before receiving an honorable discharge rank of sergeant (E5). He authored a weekly newspaper column for the Coos Bay World and wrote position statements for US Senator Wayne Morse from Oregon. He has received numerous awards, including an honorable mention from the Canadian Film Board and two George B. Hill literary awards. A former smoker who is 36 years tobacco free, Paul has spent 30 years researching smoking cessation. He has presented numerous papers on smoking cessation and public policy at international and national conferences, including the 7th Annual Conference on Health, Wellness and Society, and has made numerous appearances on Sacramento Area radio and television programs.
