  Jessica Montez is a graduate student in the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her educational and professional background is in animal and human health and journalism. She has conducted research on foreign animal disease and zoonotic pathogens, and has contributed to therapeutic drug research and development. In 2016, she began her master's degree focusing on family biographical history with interviews of family in Vietnam and their roles during Vietnam's political conflicts. She is particularly interested in civilian perspectives, specifically of Vietnamese women in their approach to survival, autonomy and self-suffiency under stressful circumstances.
