Jessica Brtva’s Updates

Khan Academy Computing

Sal Khan started Khan Academy initally in 2005 to provide tutoring over the internet to a cousin. He created video tutorials of math problems and sent them to his cousin. Since then, Khan Academy has expanded to cover the following topics:

Khan Academy Topics by Subject

In case you can't read them, these topics include math(s), science, engineering, computing, test prep, humanities, economics and college/career topics as well.

In response to this week's update, I took a look at the computing strand. Included are topics in Computer Programming, Computer Science and even a shorter strand of focused activities for the Hour of Code.

The Programming strand introduces multiple coding languages and provides video instruction, and step by step coding challenges, and projects at the end of each section.

In all, I found these activities easy to work through with clear directions and lots of opportunity to play and create. Ultimately, the practice and play are crucial to internalizing these new skills.
