I am Postgraduate Coordinator and a Principal Lecturer in Art History and Theory at Dunedin School of Art, Dunedin, New Zealand and currently enrolled as a PhD candidate at Australian National University, Canberra, Australia. My painting practice addresses and subverts principles of rational space, in the sense that a pre-determined system is overtaken by the intuitive and 'logic' breaks down into something seemingly perceptually capricious. In this engagement with the concept of space there is a reference to non-isotropic space and the principles of reverse or inverse perspective. Making notion of the 'holes in space'there is a reworking of this concept as an 'aesthetic of the void' which draws on the conceptual and procedural and material emphasis of non-objective painting and on the conventions of painting as object, formalist minimalism and process-based conceptualism.
