Mimi Nartey is a post-professional soccer player, interdisciplinary scholar, and social entrepreneur. She was a silver-medalist in the 2002 African Cup of Nations and represented Ghana in the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Columbia University, and she did her doctoral studies at UCLA. Mimi held an 8-year lecturing appointment at UCLA and adjunct faculty titles at Occidental College and Loyola Marymount University. In 2016, she was invited to give a TEDx Talk, entitled "African Women's Soccer and Empowerment: Memoirs of a Black Queen." She subsequently received a grant from The Kaiser Foundation to develop a course for Occidental entitled, "Women's Sports and Empowerment." In 2018, she co-founded The Nartey Sports Foundation with her husband to support sports-related interventions for underserved youth. She is the Co-Founder and Dean at InterMission, an education startup to assist post-professional athletes in career transitions. As a licensed coach through the US Soccer Association, she enjoys sharing her passion for soccer with her children and their teammates. In 2019, she coached her 10-year-old daughter's club soccer team to the Cal-South State Cup Championship.
