I am an academic scholar who researches immigrant and culturally diverse urban communities in the United States focusing on New York City. I have worked closely with community organizations and local community leaders in understanding the changing patterns of race, ethnic, and cultural identities as well as issues of civic and political participation in culturally diverse areas. I teach at a public university (Queens College, City University of New York) where I engage a diverse body of urban students and I serve as the Director of a community-oriented Asian/American (Research) Center at Queens College. My field of interest is Immigration and Ethnic Studies and I am deeply inerested in comparative sudies of migration, diasporic communities, and changing civic life in urban areas. My earlier research on a case study of Indian immigrants in New York City was published as "Becoming American, Being Indian: An Immigrant Community in NYC" by cornell University Press (2002). Currently I am researching diverse Asian American communities in Queens, NYC, and preparing a book publication.
