I am professor of History at the University of Prince Edward Island, where I teach courses on the history of Prince Edward Island, Atlantic Canada, and tourism as well as a course on public history. I also have a longstanding connection with the Institute of Island Studies at UPEI, a global leader in the comparative study of small islands. In terms of research interests, I am a historian of place specializing in the social and cultural history of Prince Edward Island, Canada. My most significant publications are If You're Stronghearted: Prince Edward Island in the 20th Century (2000) and Time and a Place: An Environmental History of Prince Edward Island (2016), co-edited with Joshua MacFadyen and Irene Novaczek. Along with Alan MacEachern of the University of Western Ontario I am contracted with McGill-Queen's University Press to publish "The Summer Trade: A History of Tourism on Prince Edward Island."
