Mobile/table Apps to Enhance Literacy Skills

Literacy skills are essential to academic success. Students who haven’t mastered early literacy skills typically fall behind their peers thereafter. Mobile apps or apps available with tablet represent a new resource available to struggling readers, teachers and parents to help students struggling to master essential literacy skills. Apps are inexpensive and feasible tools to meet stuents' potential. While there are numerous apps out there, it is important to get appropriate apps that meet the needs of individual, specific needs. 

Apps for language remedication includes those focusing on enhancing expressive and receptive language skills as well as pragmatic langauge skills. Mobile/tablet apps provide digital literacy and/or alternative literacy formats such as digital storytelling, graphic novels, photo annotation, comic and collages. This encourages students' motivation and engagement. A variety of formats represented help students who are nonverbal get more involved in learning and help students who have learned helplesness get more motivated to read and learn.
