*Developed a disciplinary & interdisciplinary academic program: Diversity-Ethics-Peace studies from 2005-2015. *In the new disciplinary studies, taught a dozen courses and published two-dozen papers, and received the Tony Diggs Excellence Award for Innovation in 2006. *Recipient of various academic honors: The University of Minnesota Outstanding Community Service Award, April 2001; The Council of Asian-Pacific Minnesotans--Leadership Award, May 2000; The Outstanding Faculty Award, 1996; The Gordon L. Starr Award for Contributions to Undergraduate Education & Service, Leadership & Dedication in the University Community, June 1992; & The College of Liberal Arts Distinguished Teacher Award, June 1986; *Recognized as a Scholar of the College of Liberal Arts. *Helped establish the University of Minnesota's Institute of Linguistics, Asian and Slavic Languages (ILASL); & The Department of Asian Languages & Literatures (ALL); *Co-founded the Twin Cities' School of Indian Languages and Cultures (SILC). *Restructured the University of Minnesota's Department of South Asian and Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures (SAMELC) and served as its Chair and Director of Undergraduate Studies 1991-2000, and Director of Graduate Studies 1993-2000. *Teaching & Research specializations include South Asian Languages, and Literatures--Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit, Pali; Ancient, Modern, Folk-literature, & Comparative Literature of India; Indian Philosophy & Religions--Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, & Sikhism, & Comparative Religiopns of South Asia; & Diversity, Ethics, Peace studies. Major publications are: Marathi Tadbhava Phonology; Topics in Pali Historical Phonology; The Poetry Pond; translations of S.N. Navre's Marathi play Sur Rahu De (Let the Tune Go On), Phanishvarnath Renu's Hindi novel: Maila Anchal (The Soiled Border), and Subhadra Kumari Chauhan's short stories-collection: Bikhare Moti (Scattered Pearls). Published numerous articles in diverse disciplines of South Asian Studies--linguistics, literatures, philosophies, religions, & in Diversity-Ethics-Peace studies.
