My name is Melissa Patiño-Vega, I am a fourth-year PhD Candidate and Associate Instructor in the Spanish and Portuguese Department at the University of California, Davis where I study Spanish Linguistics, more specifically how native speakers of Spanish develop and academic biliteracy in their native tongue. I earned my Master's Degree at New York University, Madrid in Spanish Applied Linguistics and my Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of California, Davis in Communication and Spanish as well as a minor in Education. My research interests are: Spanish as a Heritage Language, Spanish in the US, Bilingualism, Language Maintenance, and Second Language Acquisition.
