Sandi Woodall’s Updates

Elevator Speech for GaDOE STEM/STEAM

Madam Chairperson, I’m Sandi Woodall. I lead the Georgia Department of Education Numeracy Team of five specialists in elementary and secondary math, computer science, and STEM/STEAM. My team is committed to proficiency in mathematics by fifth grade for all of Georgia’s children.

We have already demonstrated our commitment by certifying 22 STEM elementary schools with 12 additional certifications underway this year. As you know, STEM/STEAM schools routinely address math foundational skills and concepts in numerous contexts –  to establish mathematical habits of mind associated with being numerate.

The Georgia Institute of Technology’s Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC) would be a perfect facilitator to engage all state organizations focused on K-12 STEM education ...but we will need funding to realize our result - to ensure our 5th graders proficiency in mathematics.
