Update 5: Project-Based learning for Geis College of Business eLearning office

I am currently in HRD 411 and as I am sure a handful of you are aware that most HRD classes involve a group semester project. This particular class I want to discuss is called Training System Design with Dr. Oh (AKA HRD 411). I found this class to be very beneficial when it comes to the project-based learning approach because my group members and I are meaningfully involved. We are working with the Geis College of Business E-learning office to design a new orientation for incoming online students in business courses. Throughout this semester I have been actively involved with instructional design employees in the e-learning office and carrying out their orientation proposal the best I can. My partners and I have been interviewing and filming students who have previously taken an online business class to help incoming students understand what is takes to be successful in a online business course with real student advice. I would say the most challenging part is having to work with four other group members since this project involves an immense amount of our free time to film students and meet with the e-learning office employees regularly. It has been very difficult to work with the busy hours of our clients, as well as, accommodate with my group members. As a result, there has been a very uneven distribution of work. The benefits of this project is being able to work on an actual project for the Geis College of Business that I know will be implemented as an orientation. It feels rewarding that I have the opportunity to help with a task like this. I truly feel like I have learned so much working on this project-based assignment for HRD 411 simply by being meaningfully involved. Overall, I think the benefits outweigh the challenges of project-based learning. The real world experience I have gained from this project has truly made this assignment feel like an internship rather than a required school task.
