  I am Reader in Design and Creative Practice and Co-Director of Lab4Living an Interdisciplinary Research Cluster at Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom. My research crosses intersections between design and health with a particular focus on the role of design and the arts in addressing broader societal issues and in giving voice to marginalised groups including people living with dementia. The outputs of this research have been manifested in award winning products and in Government Guidelines. I am co-founder of the International Design4Health Conference and editor of the Design4Health Journal. I have published widely in relation to this field and my books include: Exploring the Self through Photography, Creativity and Communication in Persons with Dementia, Meaningful Making, Lifestyle Matters, Design for Health and Wellbeing (in press).

  I undertook a part-time PhD at Sheffield Hallam University in Design, I also hold an MA in History from Oxford University (specialising in Anglo-Saxon Archaeology) and a BSc in Occupational Therapy. I have a Foundation in Art Psychotherapy and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. I am a National Teaching Fellow and a Fellow of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists
