  I am Professor of Philosophy at the University of Colorado and regularly teach a course on sustainability and globalization at my home institution. I am also an old mountaineer and climber. I've visited Patagonia as a hiking tourist but not as a climber. I became interested in the controversies surrounding Patagonia National Park through my old climbing connections. The last time I taught my course on sustainability and globalization, I used Patagonia National Park as a case study for students to understand some of the issues surrounding sustainability and the ambiguity of the term 'sustainability'.
