Lesson 14: What does my online profile say about me?

Assignment 21:

My online behavior does not show much about me. I keep my life fairly private and refrain from posting a lot online. I never voice opinions in posts or updates or get into debates with anyone online. My profiles consist of pictures of me with friends and family as well as photos of my favorite places such as the beach and hiking in my hometown. I share a few videos of cute animals or recipes I would like to try, but nothing more than that. My profile does not say much about me or my personal life and I would like to continue to keep it that way. I believe it is more important for people to get to know you better by real life interaction rather than stalking someone’s profile. I would like to change how much time I spend on social media because it distracts me from doing the productive things I need to do each day. I hope to limit my social media usage to only being used at the end of the day after I have finished everything I need to do. After logging my digital media use and the ethical issues I have seen online, I have become more aware of the unethical things being done that I used to overlook. I usually scrolled past the cyberbullying, political arguments, sexist comments, objectifying advertisements and trolling because I wanted to avoid the negativity those things brought. I use media for enjoyment and if I acknowledged the previously listed unethical things, my experience would no longer be enjoyable. Now that I have been required to log these unethical actions, I am more aware that they exist and notice them more and more. I hope to continue to avoid being involved in making unethical actions online and keeping my profile simple and private.
